A Joyful Two-Day English-Indian Fusion Wedding at The Barns at Lodge Farm, Nazeing
By Charlotte Kitchenside – Essex Documentary Wedding Photographer

Some weddings feel like a true celebration of not just love, but culture, family, and joy—and this two-day fusion wedding at The Barns at Lodge Farm in Nazeing was exactly that. Blending the traditions of both an English countryside wedding and a vibrant Indian celebration, this weekend was bursting with colour, emotion, and unforgettable moments.

Day One – An Intimate English Wedding Ceremony & Afternoon Tea

The celebrations began with a beautifully relaxed English wedding ceremony held in the rustic Granary Barn. The Barns at Lodge Farm is a versatile countryside venue in Essex that feels wonderfully peaceful and personal—perfect for a smaller, heartfelt ceremony like this one.

Surrounded by their closest family and friends, Shivani & Stephen exchanged vows in an intimate setting filled with natural light and emotion. After the ceremony, everyone gathered for a quintessentially British afternoon tea and afterwards we had a stroll around and took a few portraits. It was calm, heartfelt, and the perfect prelude to the next day’s vibrant celebrations.

Day Two – A Colourful, Traditional Indian Wedding

The energy completely shifted for Day Two, as the venue was transformed for a traditional Indian wedding celebration—and it was nothing short of spectacular. Shivani & Stephen and their families embraced every detail of Shivani’s cultural heritage, from the intricate outfits to the ceremonial rituals that were deeply meaningful and full of joy. Shivani had thought of everything and even left lovely little info sheets explaining the meanings behind each ceremony.

The Grain Store, with its more modern and industrial feel, was the perfect backdrop for this part of the celebration. Bright saris, lehengas, and sherwanis brought the space to life, while the scent of spices and the sounds of laughter and music filled the air.

Traditional Indian wedding ceremonies are rich with symbolism, and photographing them is a complete privilege. Every moment—from the joyful entrance of the groom to the sacred rituals around the fire—was powerful and photogenic. The families on both sides were incredibly warm, welcoming, and full of energy, making it a dream to document. It’s certainly one I will never forget.

Dancing, Colour, and Celebration

As the sun dipped and the evening continued, the dance floor came alive. Indian weddings are known for their high-energy celebrations and this one absolutely delivered—dancing, music, and real warmth and connection.

The Barns at Lodge Farm provided the perfect indoor and outdoor spaces to host both days comfortably, while still feeling immersed in teh beautiful Essex countryside.
