Relaxed, emotional, joyful and full of personality from start to finish, their wedding perfectly reflected everything they love most — family, countryside living, great food and celebrating outdoors with the people closest to them.

Hosted on Josh’s family farm in the Essex countryside, this beautiful boho wedding combined a woodland celebrant ceremony with a rustic barn reception, creating the kind of laid-back atmosphere that documentary wedding photography was made for.

Grace & Josh chose to hold their ceremony in the woods on the family farm, surrounded by towering trees and nature. Guests wandered through woodland paths before gathering for a heartfelt celebrant-led ceremony beneath the trees.

Grace & Josh Arrive on a Brand New Tractor

One of the most memorable moments of the day came when Grace & Josh arrived at the reception in a brand new tractor. Honestly, it couldn’t have suited the vibe of the wedding more perfectly.

Guests cheered as they drove across the fields towards the barn while kids ran behind laughing and waving. It was fun, relaxed and completely unique to them — exactly what DIY countryside weddings are all about.

Grace looked incredible in a flowing boho-style wedding dress paired with cowboy boots, which fitted the farm setting perfectly. The whole wedding had such an effortlessly cool countryside aesthetic without ever feeling styled or overly curated.

Rustic Barn Reception with Relaxed Italian Food

The reception took place inside one of the barns on the farm, transformed with long wooden tables, festoon lighting, dried flowers and relaxed rustic details. DIY weddings like this always have such warmth and personality because every part of the day has been carefully chosen by the couple themselves.

Instead of a formal wedding breakfast, Grace & Josh served rustic Italian food banquet-style, by the always incredible Gather & Feast Events, encouraging guests to relax, share food and properly enjoy the evening together. Huge platters of incredible food, flowing drinks and long conversations created such a welcoming atmosphere throughout the barn.

As the evening continued, guests spilled outside into the warm summer air while children ran around the farm fields and music drifted through the open barn doors. These are the moments I love most as an Essex documentary wedding photographer — the natural interactions and in-between memories that truly tell the story of a wedding day.
