A Bright and Joyful Spring Wedding at Blake Hall, Essex

As a documentary Essex wedding photographer, I’m lucky enough to photograph at some truly beautiful venues — and Blake Hall in Ongar is one of my all-time favourites. I’ve been capturing weddings here for over a decade, and every season brings something new to love. This particular spring wedding at Blake Hall was bursting with colour, laughter, and personality — not to mention Anita and Dave’s adorable dog, who proudly took centre stage as guest of honour.

A Venue That Feels Like Home

Having photographed weddings at Blake Hall for more than 10 years, I know every inch of the venue — from the beautiful bridal preparation rooms to the tree-lined driveway and the perfectly kept gardens that come alive in spring. Knowing the venue so well means I can anticipate the light, the best backdrops, and the little hidden corners for portraits. It allows me to photograph naturally and confidently, without ever interrupting the flow of the day.

This wedding was everything a spring celebration should be — bright, joyful, and full of life. The couple chose a vibrant palette of spring florals, creating an atmosphere that matched their personalities perfectly. The barn at Blake Hall looked incredible filled with colour, and the gardens provided the most stunning backdrop for relaxed, natural portraits.

The Star of the Show: Their Dog!

One of my favourite things about this day was how much their dog was included in the celebration. Dressed for the occasion and full of character, he joined in for photos, stole cuddles from guests, and added such a personal, heartwarming touch to the day. I love when couples bring their pets along — it always adds to the story and brings so much joy to the images.
