A wedding in two parts! An intimate ceremony followed by a reception aboard a boat!
Well, what can I say about Mhairi & Tom?! They are an infectiously happy pair (just look at all the smiling!) and the kind of people who make you feel good about everything just by being in their company. I found this out when I first met up with them to hear their plans, and they sounded amazing. Talk about having a wedding just the way they wanted to do it!!
They were married on a very hot Thursday afternoon in Colchester in a intimate by emotional ceremony with just their parents and grandma in attendance. I found Tom and Mhairi a lot of fun when we went of to shoot a few portraits and were up for anything!
The following Sunday I met them at their sailing club to capture them hopping in a sail boat to sail up the estuary to Maldon to surprise their guests who were waiting aboard the SB Hydrogen – hows that for an entrance?! Once all aboard, we set sail up the estuary for a couple of hours to enjoy the incredible weather. Guests enjoyed a few cold drinks, some delicious canapés whilst they chatted and looked through photo albums! When we got back in the quay, we settled down to pie and mash as a storm thundered above us! As the day was turning out to pretty much perfect, the rain stopped just in time for us to head off for some portraits, and our luck continued! There happened to be a visiting steam fair at the park on the quayside and the rain had chased the crowds away so we had the entire fair to ourselves! Thanks to the staff at the fair who were extremely gracious letting us hop on and off rides to take our portraits! You could’nt make it up! After capturing the first few songs from the awesome band, I left the newlyweds to dance the night away, and left feeling on cloud 9! I often can’t believe that this is my job, I’m so lucky, and days like this quite simply sum it up for me. I get to photograph wonderful people celebrating love in so many different ways!
