A Romantic Outdoor June Wedding at Tuffon Hall Vineyard
By an Essex Documentary Wedding Photographer
Some weddings just feel like they’re dipped in summer light, and Riannon & Dan’s outdoor June celebration at Tuffon Hall Vineyard was exactly that. As an Essex based documentary wedding photographer with over 15 years of experience capturing relaxed, natural weddings, this day had everything I love: heartfelt moments, a stunning vineyard backdrop, oversized florals that felt straight out of a dream, and a couple who wanted their wedding to unfold effortlessly, without the day becoming one long photoshoot.
A Shakespearean-inspired Dress & Big, Blousy Florals
Let’s start with the dress—because honestly, I’m still thinking about it. Riannon made her own wedding gown (yes, really!), and it looked like it had stepped out of a Shakespearean play. Soft, romantic, slightly ethereal… it moved with the breeze in the most beautiful way.
Those incredible florals by Starry Eyed Weddings tied the whole aesthetic together: huge, blousy bouquets in soft pinks and fresh greens, finished with long silk ribbons that danced behind the bridesmaids as they walked. The colour palette echoed everything around us—the roses, the vines, the beginning of summer warming the land.
A Rose Garden Ceremony Filled With Emotion
Tuffon Hall’s rose gardens are one of my favourite outdoor ceremony spots in Essex, and they couldn’t have been more perfect for Riannon & Dan. Surrounded by blooms and soft June light, their ceremony felt romantic and intimate without feeling staged or formal.
One of the reasons relaxed couples choose me is because they don’t want to spend their ceremony worrying about cameras. They often tell me they don’t like having their photo taken at all. With my documentary approach, everything stays natural—no interruptions, no posing, no stopping the moment for the sake of the photo. And this ceremony was full of those fleeting, emotional glances that become the photos couples cherish years later.
Drinks Among the Vines
After the ceremony, guests wandered into the vineyard for drinks and canapés between the vines. There’s something magical about people sipping chilled drinks while brushing past grape leaves in the sunshine—it feels like an Italian summer and a wedding all at once.
As always with Tuffon Hall Vineyard, the light filtered beautifully through the rows, casting soft shadows and giving everyone that golden, sun-kissed look. It’s the kind of setting where documentary storytelling really thrives—laughter, hugs, kids darting between the vines, and those spontaneous, unscripted moments that you can’t plan for.
Emotional Speeches in the Barn
The speeches later in the barn were full of emotion—happy tears, belly laughs, and more than one moment where guests reached across tables to squeeze someone’s hand. These are the moments couples come back to again and again. Not the perfect, posed photos, but the real ones. The ones that take them straight back.
Sunset Over the Wheatfields
And then came the sunset.
Tuffon Hall’s surrounding wheatfields light up in June like they’ve been dipped in gold, and Riannon & Dan timed it perfectly. We stepped out for ten minutes—no big production, no stopping the party—and the sky did the rest. A glowing horizon, soft warm air, and the two of them walking through the fields together like the world had paused for a second just for them.
