A Romantic Outdoor May Wedding at Mulberry House
By an Essex Documentary Wedding Photographer
There’s something truly special about a Spring wedding at Mulberry House, and Emma & Mario’s day was the perfect example. As an Essex based documentary wedding photographer with 15 years of experience, I’ve captured many relaxed outdoor celebrations—but this one had that extra touch of romance that only May can bring. Pastel florals, soft light, the sound of laughter across the lawns… it was everything couples dream of when they choose a countryside venue.
A Gentle Spring Morning at Mulberry House
Mulberry House is one of my favourite wedding venues in Essex—beautiful grounds, elegant interiors, and a relaxed feel that suits my unobtrusive documentary approach perfectly. I regularly photograph weddings not only across Essex, but throughout the surrounding counties, and Mulberry House always stands out for couples wanting a natural, timeless backdrop.
On the morning of Emma & Mario’s wedding, the gardens were filled with fresh Spring colour. Their florist created the most delicate pastel arrangements—soft pinks, greens and creams—which set the tone for a romantic outdoor celebration. Their young daughters, dressed in sweet white dresses as flower girls, added so much heart to the day. They took their role very seriously… most of the time! There were plenty of giggles and spontaneous moments that made for beautiful natural photographs.
An Outdoor Ceremony… With a Touch of Spring Rain
The ceremony took place outdoors by the lake—a classic Mulberry House setting. Just as Emma & Mario walked back upthe aisle, a light rain began to fall. Instead of worrying, everyone embraced it!
And true to British Springtime… ten minutes later, the clouds passed and the sun broke through. The rest of the day unfolded in warm golden light.
Sunshine, Canapés & Crazy Golf on the Lawns
Once the sun came out, guests headed to the lawns for canapés, drinks, and a round (or several!) of crazy golf. Mulberry House is brilliant for outdoor spaces that actually get used, and Emma & Mario’s guests absolutely made the most of it. From kids running around to adults getting hilariously competitive, everything was full of energy and joy.
This is exactly what I love most about documentary wedding photography: real moments, real interactions, real memories—captured without stopping the fun or staging anything. Many of the couples who book me describe themselves as “camera-shy” or say they don’t want their wedding day to feel like a photoshoot. They want the photos to be about the wedding, not the wedding about the photos—and Emma & Mario felt exactly the same. Their day unfolded naturally, and I simply followed the story.
A Relaxed Spring Celebration Full of Heart
As the evening arrived, we wandered through the gardens for a few quiet portraits. Nothing posed, nothing stiff—just the two of them enjoying a moment alone after celebrating with everyone they love. Mulberry House always gives beautiful light at this time of year, and the Spring greenery created the perfect soft backdrop.
Why Mulberry House is Perfect for Relaxed Documentary Wedding Photography
If you’re planning a Mulberry House wedding, or looking for a documentary wedding photographer in Essex, this venue truly shines for couples who want a natural, real, relaxed day. The gardens, the outdoor ceremony space, the friendly flow of the venue—all of it suits a style focused on storytelling rather than posing.
With 15 years of experience, I’m sought after by couples who value authenticity over perfection, who want the emotions, the atmosphere, and the fleeting expressions captured without intruding on their experience. I cover weddings not only in Essex but across the surrounding areas and throughout the UK and Europe.
