A Rustic Spring Wedding at The Barns at Lodge Farm, Epping — Chrissy & Rich

If you’re dreaming of a relaxed, rustic Spring wedding surrounded by rolling fields and golden sunset light, Chrissy & Rich’s beautiful celebration at The Barns at Lodge Farm in Epping, Essex is the perfect inspiration. As an Essex-based documentary wedding photographer with 15 years of experience capturing weddings across Essex, Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire, and beyond, this day had everything I love photographing: genuine moments, stunning countryside scenery, and couples who simply want to enjoy their day without feeling posed or directed.

A Rustic, Neutral Spring Palette

Chrissy & Rich embraced a gorgeous rustic aesthetic throughout their day. The décor featured dried flowers, warm brown tones, and soft neutral colours, giving the barn space a beautifully natural and understated feel. The floral arrangements were full of texture—pampas, dried grasses, and earthy blooms—and worked perfectly with the wooden beams and open, airy layout at Lodge Farm.

Their styling choices created the kind of environment that suits documentary-style photography so well. With everything feeling organic and unfussy, it was easy to move quietly through the day, capturing the real connections and interactions that unfolded.

Cheese Wheel Canapés? Yes, Please

During the drinks reception, guests were treated to something completely different: a cheese wheel and crackers as canapés. This went down incredibly well—people gathered around chatting, laughing, nibbling, and toasting the newlyweds. It created exactly the kind of relaxed atmosphere that makes for brilliant candid photographs. No stiff posing, no forced smiles—just people genuinely having a great time.

A Perfect Spring Sunset Over the Fields

One of my favourite things about photographing weddings at The Barns at Lodge Farm is the landscape that surrounds it. The open fields stretch for miles, giving you some of the best sunset views in Epping.

And Chrissy & Rich absolutely lucked out.

As the sun dipped behind the rolling fields, we stepped away for a few quiet minutes for some natural portraits. Nothing staged, nothing dramatic—just the two of them taking a breather together, wrapped in golden Spring light. These gentle, easygoing moments are exactly what couples who “don’t like having their photo taken” always end up loving.

A Venue That Suits Relaxed, Documentary Photography

The Barns at Lodge Farm is a brilliant choice for couples who want their wedding to feel authentic and laid back. With its rustic barns, big open skies, and space for guests to mingle naturally, it lends itself perfectly to my style of documentary wedding photography.

I’ve spent over 15 years photographing weddings for couples who want their photos to be about the wedding—not the wedding about the photos. Chrissy & Rich’s day was the perfect example of how beautiful a day can be when you simply allow it to unfold.
