An Autumn Wedding at The Barns at Lodge Farm, Epping – Creative, Personal and Full of Heart
Some weddings are so unique, so full of creativity and personal touches, that they stay with you long after the day itself. Rebecca & Liam’s autumn wedding at The Barns at Lodge Farm in Epping, Essex was one of those special days. As a wedding photographer who loves storytelling, I was completely captivated by the thought and heart this couple poured into every detail.
A Labyrinth-Inspired Theme
Rebecca took inspiration from Labyrinth—one of my favourite 80s films as a child—and wove it beautifully into the style of the day. Subtle references in the décor, the colour palette, and even the atmosphere gave the wedding a touch of magic and nostalgia. It wasn’t about the movie scene-for-scene, but about capturing its whimsical, creative spirit—something that reflected the couple perfectly.
A Handmade Wedding Dress with Meaning
One of the most remarkable details was Rebecca’s dress. Made by her mum using a Vogue pattern and crafted from stunning Indian brocade, it was a true labour of love. It’s rare to see a wedding dress that feels so deeply personal and full of history before the day has even begun, and photographing it was an absolute joy.
Sustainable Flowers, Décor and Even Rings
Everywhere I looked, there were handmade, sustainable touches. The bride and groom created all the florals and table décor themselves, using eco-conscious materials that looked both vibrant and meaningful. Even their wedding rings were handmade, adding another layer of personal connection to their day.
Family and Friends at the Heart of It All
What made this wedding extra special was the incredible involvement of family and friends. From the dress to the cake, to the live musicians who kept the atmosphere buzzing, it truly felt like a celebration built by the people who love them most. There was a sense of community and warmth that made the day unforgettable.
Why I Love The Barns at Lodge Farm, Epping
As an Essex wedding photographer, I always enjoy photographing at The Barns at Lodge Farm. The mix of rustic charm, open fields, and relaxed atmosphere makes it a perfect canvas for couples who want to create something unique. In autumn, the light is especially beautiful—soft, golden, and ideal for those intimate portraits as the sun dips behind the fields.
A Wedding That Truly Reflected Them
This wedding was a wonderful reminder of what I love most about being a documentary wedding photographer. It wasn’t about perfection—it was about authenticity, creativity, and the personalities of two people shining through every single detail. From the Labyrinth-inspired theme to the handmade touches, this day was unapologetically theirs, and it was a privilege to capture it. Here’s what they had to say…”We are both absolutely lost for words! We had such an amazing day from start to finish and can’t believe how well you have captured us. You made us feel so comfortable and we really love the photos. It was so amazing to have you there!”.
